Your Father
The last time I saw my father I was at a supercenter store. My boys and I were spending the weekend with out of town family. My baby, in my arms, and I went to get diapers. Walking down a long wide end Isle I saw my father walking toward me. It was quite a distance and there was no one else in between us. He saw me too, we locked eyes until he was just in front of me and then I seen his eyes transfer over to my baby. When he passed, I stopped, turned and watched. I recognized his walk. Waiting, to see if he too would turn around. He didn’t. He didn’t know who I was.
Were you blessed with a good father? We know that a good father loves us. Trains us, protects us and encourages us. A good father gives us clear boundaries. And we choose to obey them because what he says is important to us. He is for us. Oh, how sad it is that some haven’t experienced tender compassion from their fathers. The proven statistical effects on this loss are very disheartening.
Jesus referred to God in heaven as our Father. God definitely designed fathers to reflect who He is. Yet, the gap between our earthly father and heavenly father can be enormous. First, our heavenly father knows us well. He said, “Before I formed you in the womb, I knew you.” (Jeremiah 1:5) He really does know everything about us. Which includes the areas our fathers have failed us. He said that He would be a “Father to the fatherless.” (Psalm 68:5) Second, our heavenly father loves us. “How great is the love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God!” (1 John 3:1) His arms are open wide. When we ask he will forgive us for not obeying Him. He wants to train, protect and encourage us. He wants us to know we belong to Him. So, if I were to answer the question, yes, I absolutely am blessed with a good Father! Are you?
