One True God

Where is our nation today? Are we following the one true God or creating false gods that fit our desires? Fake gods are called idols. This culture isn’t even subtle. It literally calls people idols. It works to promote idols. And even has TV programming about creating idols. God sees all of this. He says, “They followed worthless idols and became worthless themselves.” (Jeremiah 2:5) Cultural acceptance and praise of idols results in our destruction. Many people don’t even realize they are involved in this process. I heard an honest man say that before finding God his house had become his temple. A house makes a worthless god. Yet people do live for their houses, cars, or other items of worldly value. Some idolize their accomplishments. Or hobbies. Or spouse. Or child. It really doesn’t matter what it is, anything that is placed above God is considered a false god.

Sadly, people usually only realize something has become a worthless idol when things get really bad. It’s usually at this time that the one true God is finally acknowledged. And through desperation we ask Him to, “Come and save us!” (Jeremiah 2:27) Do you know what God asks us? “Where then are the gods you made for yourself?” (Jeremiah 2:28) Oh, Lord, forgive us for putting anything above you. Let us never forget that making false gods is worthless!

Take note of how you live your life. Don’t allow anything or anybody to take a higher place than the one who created the heavens and the earth. He is the one and only true God.
