Hidden Light

Last night my family was marveling at the stars. Now that the winter storms have passed the night sky can again be seen without interference. Bright stars over the dark expanse. This is our unbelievable galaxy, with over 100 billion stars. These stars are burning day and night. And even when their hidden from our eyes their light is still shining.

I received good news at a doctors appointment years back. I’ll never forget that on the tip of my tongue was “praise the Lord,” but I stopped myself. I purposely said something different. I don’t remember what I said now. I don’t even remember what I was thankful not be diagnosed with. But I do remember hiding my light and the conviction I felt. Just like those massive stars of fire can be hidden from our view, we too can hide our light from others. God’s incredible power can be burning within us and others will have no idea.

Jesus says, “You are the light of the world.” (Matthew 5:14) And to, “Let your light shine.” (Matthew 5:16) Those who walk in darkness all around us need to see the light to show them the way. When your hidden light is revealed all will marvel. So shine!
