Your Net
Has God asked you to do something that doesn’t make sense? Or continue in something that looks bleak? He has me. Starting this website and continuing to blog. It started with a small but persistent vision. I couldn’t get peace until I started writing. It took time for me to start because I felt it to be small and insignificant. The opportunity to make a difference seems impossible. I have no online presence. After all isn’t that required for successful exposure? God has called me to it anyway.
Peter was the first disciple that Jesus called. He was a fisherman. Jesus was using his boat to sit in and teach the crowd. After he taught, Jesus told Peter, “Put out into the deep water, and let down the nets for a catch.” (Luke 5:4) Peter kindly shared that he had been fishing all night and hadn’t caught anything. In other words, it doesn’t make sense and it looks bleak. “But because you say so, I will let down the nets.” (Luke 5:5) By listening to Jesus they caught so many fish the nets began to break and they had to call over another boat. Then they were both full and began to sink. Peter was brought to his knees in astonishment. Jesus told him, “Don’t be afraid, from now on you will catch men.” (Luke 5:10)
I do wonder if this net, or blog I’ve started will ever catch men. I don’t know. But there are a lot of people who are lost. We all need the truth. And we all need encouragement. So I will keep it open until God confirms it’s time to pull it out. I’ve stepped out into the deep water. I will keep my eyes on Jesus and not be afraid. I will hold on to the vision He gave me which comes with a sort of expectancy for the future.
Whatever God asks of you, I encourage you to listen like Peter. Drop your net!
