Pushing so Hard
In our home, we are over a month into the new academic year and we’ve had a hard start. We entered in just at the end of a large house project, had a few too many previously scheduled events on the calendar and we weren’t prepared for our new routine. It’s called busy, and the truth is everyone is busy. We all have lot’s to do, but what about when life becomes too heavy and doesn’t allow you to breathe easy, then what do you do? You find rest! I’ve found searching for rest from anywhere other than one source a fruitless exercise. We only find true peace in Jesus. He clearly tells us, “Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.” (Matthew 11:28) It’s simple, but are we willing? What’s stopping you from accepting His invitation? Real rest is available. It’s perfect in Him. “He leads me beside still waters. He restores my soul.” (Psalm 23:2-3) Take what He offers, and stop pushing so hard.
Striving to keep up with overwhelmed schedules won’t allow us to accomplish the things that are most valuable. I can’t cuddle when I can’t be still. I can’t write when I can’t process. I can’t enjoy family nights when I’m not mentally present. I can’t cook my family healthy slow cooked meals when I’m moving fast. When my days start to run together and I can’t keep pace peacefully then I know I need help. Jesus told us, “I am the vine; you are the branches. Those who remain in me and I in them, will produce much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing.” (John 15:5) Did you hear that? Nothing! You know what I think, there is beauty in knowing I can’t do it without Him. It’s good news. Now I can rest in Him. He can lead me forward in what’s most important. Thankfully, He is gentle and compassionate with us. Yes, we can let go of pushing so hard.
Let’s be honest that most of our busyness is self-induced. We frequently waste time with things that aren’t important. We need to be able to recognize what’s valuable. As well as be able to stop and ask ourselves: “Do I trust God?” It’s actually really easy to find rest for your soul. What are you waiting for? Simply stop all the striving, driving and pushing so hard. Go to Jesus, your rest.
