His Word
My boys and I ventured into a back section of the library last week. The librarian brought us by the classical and historical books. But what really had my attention was the reference shelves. The books you can’t check out. I was interested to know what books are deemed too valuable to leave the library. I would like to tell you that I paid attention as her hands drifted around reading important titles - but I got stuck at the top where she started. “Here we have the Holy Bible’s,” she said reaching up and touching the thick leather books. There they were, always available to anyone who may need them. I couldn’t agree more with their placement. It is the absolute most valuable book ever printed. It’s also the most dangerous. As well as most sold and treasured. It’s the Word of God.
The bible is holy. This is because, “All scripture is God breathed.” (2 Timothy 3:16) Meaning the Holy Spirit led men in writing it. It is a living book. It can’t simply be read and completed. “For the word of God is alive and active.” (Hebrews 4:12) It’s continually changing our life by changing our heart.
Every time I open my bible I hope that God will speak to me. That He will give me knowledge and understanding of what I read. That my eyes will be open to the truth. Because I need to know the way to live. I need a light for my path. More than a book on a reference shelf, I need a living and active God guiding me. How about you? Do you need direction? We all do. The answers are in His word.
