Harvest Time
Last summer, a friend from church had a word from God for me. It’s wonderful when someone hears a word from God and obediently passes it on. I didn’t understand how it related to me when I first heard it. About a month later when I heard it repeated elsewhere - it clicked! It was about writing this blog. Later in the summer, sitting watching my kids swim, I asked her what she has been hearing from the Lord. She told me about a harvest scene at the end of a Jane Austin movie. Like the joy in the movie, she was confident that it was about harvest time. Again, I didn’t understand how that related to our times. Now? The governors and others with power have literally told us to cover our mouths, close our churches and not gather with others in our own homes. It’s a dark time. Is it really harvest time?
The day Jesus died was very dark. Literally, the whole land went dark for three hours. Think about his followers. He previously had told them about His kingdom and His glory. He gave them hope and encouragement. Then these followers watched Him die on a Roman cross. They had to be asking, “How can this be?” Their faith was severely tested in this darkness. Yet, that cross was for all our sins. It is our only way to the kingdom of heaven! They couldn’t see it right then. We see it now.
The church all around the world has been praying. I’m learning that praying “His kingdom come” doesn’t mean that things here on this earth will look like heaven. But good things are happening for the kingdom of heaven. I’m thankful that I’m able to write and tell others about our great God. Like the early followers at the foot of the cross, I too don’t understand all that is happening. But I have my faith. My hope is in nothing less than Jesus Christ. The light of the world. The Lord of the harvest.
