Fear No More

It’s been a fight for me to not be weighed down with fear. There is a lot of chaos in our world. Truth be told it’s had me weary. But we either fight for faith or give into fear. They don’t coexist. Which is exactly why I’m ready to settle this once and for all. Do I trust God? Yes! Then why have I been giving God my fears only to pick them back up again. God does not want this for any of us. “For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.” (2 Timothy 1:7) We are not to fear!

The first followers of Christ were full of fear. For good reason. Jesus was hated, betrayed, arrested, beaten and killed on a cross. Some of them watched from a distance. Some denied knowing Him. They all fled and hid behind locked doors. They were seriously afraid. Then Jesus resurrected. He told them what was promised to come and that they would be, “Clothed with power from on high.” (Luke 24:49) The Holy Spirit changed everything. They started living in the power of God. It’s the same Spirit that raised Jesus from the dead. And Peter, who previously denied knowing Jesus started proclaiming salvation through Him. Three thousand accepted. That’s a long way from hiding behind a locked door. Even as the persecution started they continued without fear. They ended up in jail but “the number of men grew to about five thousand.” (Acts 4:4) We know the rest of the story and that today there are over two billion Christians.

The same spirit that was alive in them, is alive in us. It is not a spirit of fear. Let’s trust Him and fear no more!
