Satisfied
Can you think of a satisfying moment in your life? For me, last weekend on the couch cuddling and reading to my boys. As well as cuddling with my husband on the couch later that night. Good moments. Or my absolute favorite was last summer riding bikes along the shoreline in the sunshine with my family. One of the most satisfying day’s of my life. It’s good to write these memories down to remind ourselves of the good gifts God has given us. We have a lot to be thankful for. But we also know it’s really easy to become dissatisfied. Even when we know better. It’s our untamed human nature. There is our body, marriage, house, car, clothes, shoes, hair, kids, jobs, money, vacations, church, extended family and I could go on. But we need to stop, recognize and get wise enough to know that getting us dissatisfied is the work of the Devil. He is really good at it. As long as he can keep our eyes on anything other than being thankful he knows we will not be satisfied.
Dissatisfaction started from the very beginning of time with Eve. She sadly fell into the wicked work of the Devil. As daughters of Eve, we need to take notice of how this relates to our life. Unlike us, she wasn’t bombarded with expert marketing and media enticement. Nor neighbors to covet. No other houses, husbands, or even female bodies to envy. But the Devil was still able to cause her to have a bad opinion of her circumstances. He pushed her to be discontent and to desire more.
Yes, it’s hard to be bombarded in this world with what we don’t have. But it’s not God’s will for us to want all these things. His desire is for us to want Him. And to be thankful for all he has given us. If we don’t get this right we will be on a never ending search for more and more that will never satisfy us. Because only God can satisfy.
