Restore
I have been wanting to write for a while now, so I’m really thankful to be typing! More than just busy in my roles and responsibilities, God has been working on my heart. I’ve been emotionally tied up. It started several weeks ago when I woke and heard, “Redeem and restore.” Which had me excited. Yes, Lord! That sounds good. Let’s do it! But I didn’t know what was coming. That God was planing on walking me through some deeply broken places within. I know each and every one of us have areas that we need to face. Thankfully, God has plans to redeem and restore us.
I dropped my ring off at the jeweler. After almost fifteen years of daily use, it had two broken prongs, two chips and the white gold finish worn to yellow tones. It was damaged. My husband offered to buy me a new ring, but that didn’t feel right. I knew it needed to be restored. When I picked it up I immediately noticed it shined beautifully. Like new. However, after careful evaluation I could tell one of the prongs is slightly different due to the chip. I should have addressed the broken prongs sooner before too much damage was done.
Jacob had some areas of his life that weren’t good and he needed to face. He had broken relationships. He was also known to manipulate and lie. It was only when he was, “In great fear and distress” (Genesis 32:7) that he dealt with these areas. Jacob literally wrestled with God. In the dark of the night, alone without his family or possessions he faced God. It was time for real maturity and spiritual growth. He didn’t back down. He stayed in it. He said, “I will not let you go, unless you bless me.” (Genesis 32:26) He held on to God. In the end, he walked away with a limp. A mark proving he overcame and was touched by God.
We live in a broken world. We are going to have some damage. But God can redeem and restore each one of us. We just have to hold on to Him. Wrestle until you overcome! For me it felt dark, but I’m starting to get excited again as I see day break. I feel like I’m limping emotionally, but I’m hopeful that God has made me like new in these areas. Like my ring, broken but restored. I encourage you to face what you must. Address those areas before too much damage is done. Let God restore you!
