Rejoice
There are so many things we have to get done each day and truth be told some of them aren’t enjoyable. We all have our own work to do and some of us have a tendency to complain about an overwhelming to-do list. A very common bible verse at our house is; “Do everything without complaining or arguing.” (Philippians 2:14) It really is just our human nature. Probably because we long for heaven where only the good from earth will remain. Nonetheless, we have to remember that God did actually create us for work. It is good for us. It doesn’t leave us without pleasure or great accomplishment. We truly do need to get better at recognizing the many simple things that each of us have in our life that bring joy. Yes, the benefits of work as well as the goodness in a relationship, food, cozy place, beautiful view or something else that brings personal pleasure. There are a multitude of opportunities for thankfulness and delight. As clear as can be in the bible God gives us a reminder when he tells us; “This is the day that the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it.” (Psalm 118:24) If you know the Lord and are in good standing with Him then live this out. If you have been saved and that deep inner human need for redemption has been fulfilled then you have every reason, every single day to REJOICE!
Wait a minute! What about when a huge debt, unknown sickness or extremely difficult person arrives in our life. Of course on those days we wouldn’t need to rejoice or give thanks, right? Actually, God says that this would be the day too. It’s all of our days. He is clear on this; “Rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.” (1 Thessalonians 5:16-18) I love when God tells us His will, so we know the direction to take. Thank you God. Which brings me to the best reason we can always rejoice - our relationship with Him. When difficult days arrive, and they absolutely will, then we pray to God about them. Even in our hard circumstances we give thanks. Trusting Him. What he has allowed will ultimately be for our growth. “We know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to His purpose.” (Romans 8:28) If you have a personal relationship with the King of the World then you know and have experienced the presence of God with you. Do not forget his great faithfulness! His ears are open to His peoples prayers. Let’s thank God for this day and for the goodness he brings into our lives. Again, I say REJOICE!
