Coincidences

Many little things in life coincide with each other and we call them coincidences. Sometimes they are funny. Like when my boys said the same long phrase at the exact same time. However, I believe that when significant life events or situations coincide they aren’t coincidences, but God-instances. The bible tells us, “He is before all things.” (Colossians 1:17) If things are aligned it’s because God arranged it that way.

One week there was a song in my head. It was an older Christian song. I didn’t even know the lyrics, so it was only the chorus over and over. “I’m sorry Lord for the things I’ve made it, when it’s all about you, all about you Jesus.” It was playing enough for me to stop and take notice at how impressed upon me it was. During that same week I picked up a biography that was on display at the library. It was the story of a teen girl in America who left Islam and her family for Jesus. She had been lost, sad and brokenhearted but she found the answer - Jesus. Her story was interesting, I read it in a day or two, but one part she shared awed me. She found herself in a sort of juvenile jail cell while the decisions were being made on what to do with her. She was not yet of age to be out of parental custody, but she feared her family. In that place all her anxiety and emotions came to a halt. She realized she had been so involved in the enormity of her situation she forgot what it was all about. She said that she started singing, “I’m sorry Lord for the things I’ve made it, when it’s all about you, all about you Jesus.” I lowered the book amazed. Here, this older song that has played in my head over and over all week was being quoted.

Coincidence? Nope. God-instance. He wanted me to always remember it’s all about Him. I too can get caught up in the enormity of my situations and lose my focus. Thank you Lord for the opportunity to stop and reflect that it’s all about you, yes, all about you Jesus.
